Crop Tool activates the "Options" bar

I have hidden the Options bar in Photoshop. When I select a portion of the image and press the C key (the shortcut for the crop tool), followed by the Enter key, the crop tool displays the Options bar. Is there a way to disable this behaviour and have the crop tool simply crop the selected area when I press Enter, without first showing a crop area preview?

I don’t know how one could avoid that behaviour (other than double-clicking instead of hitting enter), so I would recommend using Image > Crop instead (edit: of using the Crop Tool) and assigning a Keyboard Shortcut to it.

    Hi @TenTin,

Thanks for reaching out. This behavior is by design; the Crop tool is a modal tool, meaning when activated, it enters a special editing state that relies on the Options bar for commit/cancel controls and crop parameters (W×H×Res, ratio, etc.). Internally, modal tools programmatically toggle the visibility of their option controls upon activation, which is why the bar appears even if you've hidden it.

For a simpler alternative, you can record an Action that performs a crop to specific dimensions, then assign that Action a function key (F2, F3, etc.) via the Actions panel's button mode. This also avoids the Crop tool's modal state entirely.

I hope this helps clear things up.

Thank you for your recommendation. I've already created an action to toggle the options bar, but making an action for a specific crop tool size isn't something I do.

I appreciate your suggestion; I created an action for that as well: Image > Crop.

However, the only issue is that I have numerous actions assigned to different Fn keys for activation, which has become quite overwhelming.

You can assign a shortcut to the menu item itself (edit > keybord shortcus) instead of an action.
