Crop tool confusion

Hello everyone

While using te crop tool is it possible that we can limit it to affect only a particular layer that we've selected? When I sue the crop tool it crops the canvas.
If I want to crop the rectangle to the right, then can I limit it to just the rectangle and not the entire canvas?

The crop tool affects all layers on the workspace.

You can use several workspaces or better use intead the transform tool (⌘T) that will affect the delected layer.
