Cursor just a croshair on Silicon Mac running Sequoia

I'm running Photoshop 2025 (26.22.0) on a Silicon Mac running Sequoia.

Also running latest Beta.

Both suddenly went sour when I tried to use any of the adjustable tools. All of them.

Stamp tool, spot healing brush tool, all of them.  They stopped changing size and just remained as crosshairs.  And yes, I did look at the settings first.  Finally, after a bit of a struggle, Chat GPT gave me this workaround:

Close Photoshop

1. create a plain text file:

NativeCanvas=0  and save it.

2. open

~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop 2025 Settings

3. Drag that text file in and name it:

PSUserConfig.txt

Got my cursors back.

@straightlife

Turn off Caps Lock on your keyboard.

If that does not work, go to Preferences > Cursors and choose another setting:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/using-tools.html

Choose tool pointer settings under Painting Cursors or Other Cursors and select OK.

  • Standard: Displays pointers as tool icons
  • Precise: Displays pointers as cross hairs
  • Normal Brush Tip: The pointer outline corresponds to approximately 50% of the area that the tool will affect. This option shows the pixels that would be most visibly affected
  • Full-Size Brush Tip: The pointer outline corresponds to nearly 100% of the area that the tool will affect, or nearly all the pixels that would be affected
  • Show Crosshair In Brush Tip: Displays cross hairs in the center of the brush shape
  • Show Only Crosshair While Painting: Improves performance with large brushes
