Hi, Debating on getting new Mac Mini 2 with 16gb RAM and 256 GB or new iMac 24" M3 with 16gb RAM/256 GB. Will either of these be enough to run Photoshop 2024. Or with the iMac with M3 be enough with 8gb RAM because of the M3 chipset. Any suggestions would be helpful....thanks

One thing many are not aware of is the larger Apple SSD's are faster than the base 256 gb drive.

Larger ssd's also have the potential to last longer, depending on how many write cycles your drive is subjected to.

Even though the cost from Apple is a little high, it's worth it to get at least the 1 gb drive or larger option.

With a 256 gb drive you'll always be wanting of more space and the internal ssd is always faster than any

external drive you can use.

ISTM that every time you think, Hey, I haven't browsed Toms Hardware or PassMark for a while, so you put that to rights and are amazed at how much faster computer storage has got.  I bet most of us remember mechanical HDDs that could do 100 to 120MB/s read and write.  Early SSDs managed 500MB/s.  So I just had a look to see what is current and found the Crucial T700 drives that do crazy fast 12,400MB/s!  You'd need PCIe 5.0 of course.

@bellodium Both will run Photoshop 2024 but honestly I went with the Mac Mini simply because its not an "all in one".

If anything fails on the iMac - you can't repair it or replace a part. With a Mac Mini - if my monitor goes to heck, I can change that out for a lot less $$.

I have a question about the SSD. Isn't 256GB a bit sparse, especially for scratch space?

It depends on the setup. I have my scratch disk set to an external SSD so its not running on the same instance as my application. HD Storage is cheap @bellodium you could get a 512 GB for $200 more.
