im trying to do a project using my "Adobe photoshop 2019 cc" and ive used the lasso to select and area and most tutorials are telling me to press the "Delete"  key on my keyboard but this does nothing for me. but when they do it, it deletes the area thats inside the selection on my backround copy layer

Any ideas/help?

A Background Layer cannot have transparency, so what exactly are you trying to do?

Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Channels, Options Bar, …) visible?

The tutorial is on a background copy layer, not an actual background layer. You can also just use a layer mask... just click the layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers panel -  this is actually a better way  - you don't want to delete pixels.

Hello, the delete key will not have the same effect on the background or on a layer. It will fill on the background, and delete the contents of the selection on a layer (hide the background, you will see a hole in your layer)

You need to use shift+delete to get the fill options on a layer.
