Here you'll find information on what ICC profiles are, descriptions of the basic types, an explanation of why they are important to you and info about how they are made and used.

I hope this helps

RGB is a generic color mode. It just means there's a red channel, a green channel and a blue channel.

There are many RGB color spaces, of which sRGB is one. The full name is sRGB IEC61966-2.1. Others are Adobe RGB, ProPhoto RGB, DCI-P3 etc.

A color space is a specification that determines exactly what the numbers mean. It defines numbers as specific colors:

The color space specification is in the form of an icc profile. Thus, the terms color profile and color space are often used interchangeably. But to be precise, a color profile is a description of a color space. The color space is the landscape, the profile is a map of that landscape.

Here's the important part: Photoshop is built around using icc profiles. They are always used and you need to understand what they are and what they do. Incorrect profiles result in incorrect display and handling of the file.

Well, do you actually use color management? If you don't, none of this matters and you've been working blind the whole time. That also might explain your colors all turning murky because you created color values that cannot be accommodated within the gamut of a specific profile. You may want to read up on soem of that stuff:

As to what your specific issue is we really can't understand based on such rudimentary info. you need to be much more specific and provide details about your actual color settings, screenshots and so on.
