Question

Docked Palettes do not appear when....

There is a certain way in which switching to Photoshop causes any docked palettes to not appear along with the rest of the Photoshop interface. Allow me to elaborate.

Performing any of the following actions to open an image in Photoshop causes any Photoshop palette that has been docked into the Workspace to not appear when Photoshop is opened or brought to the top of the desktop. (Any undocked/floating palettes do appear as normal.)

  • Double clicking on a file in Finder.
  • Right-clicking on a file in Finder and selecting 'Open' or 'Open with Adobe Photoshop 2025.app'.
  • Dragging and dropping a file on the Photoshop icon in the Dock.

The only way to get the missing palettes to reappear is to switch to another app and then switch back to Photoshop. Switching can either be done via the following methods:

  • Pressing Command + Tab twice.
  • Clicking on another app icon in the dock and then clicking on the Photoshop icon in the dock.

I think this bug has been around for a number of years now and it's been a bit of a blight on one's workflow. ie. Any time you open an image you have to perform two additional actions just to get to work on said image. As such I sincerely hope this bug can be fixed at the earliest convenience.

I suspect having undocked palettes off-screen or partially off-screen may be playing a part in this as I've had mixed success in reproducing this bug when all undocked palettes are entirely on screen.

With regards,

Danny

Following the steps you have posted, I haven't been able to recreate the behavior on my end. When you next see it, could you collect and post the following:

  • screen shots of the behavior, before and after (what it looks like without the docked panels and another when you have restored them)
  • your workspace (Go to Window > Workspace > New Workspace, give it a name, and then retrieve the file from Users\[UserName]\Library\Preferences\Adobe Photoshop 2025 Settings\WorkSpaces. It will have the .psw extension)
  • A System Info report (go to Help > System Info, click the Copy button, and paste into a text file)
