Document window green zoom button no longer contains the "+" sign

Workspace: Essentials (default). I don’t use the Application Frame.

Up until the latest update, the green dot zoom button on the top left of the document window had a “+” sign within it. Clicking on that button would resize the document window to fit the document zoom (%) size.

Since the update, the green dot button only contains opposing arrows with the options to enter full screen mode, or tile the window to either the left or right of screen.

How do I return the green button to its former state with the “+” sign?

Deleting and resetting the preferences settings file hasn't fixed the problem.

[Note that the "+" sign only appears on the Home Screen and Application Frame, neither of which I enable].

I'd kindly appreciate a recommended fix.

Adobe Support instructed me to uninstall Photoshop, and to install version 25.3.1, because I'd re-installed 25.5.0 but the problem persisted.

The problem is resolved in the older version.

Hi Bart,
Instead of using the green button, you can double-click on the window's title bar to resize it to the canvas size.
In macOS Sequoia 15.2:
System Preferences > Desktop & Dock > Double-click a window's title bar to > Zoom

In MacOS Sequoia 15.2 / Photoshop 26.2, hovering over the green dot only presents "Full screen" with the following 3 sub options: 1. Entire Screen, 2. Left of Screen, and 3. Left of Screen.

Where holding down the option key whilst hovering over the green dot presented the "+" sign in some of the more recent versions, this no longer works.

Your instructions resolves the issue once again. So now the change needs to be made at the MacOS level, rather than at the application level.

In Photoshop 25.3.1 the "+" sign appears inside the green button in the top left corner of the document window, as it has in all previous versions. Clicking on the "+" was a shortcut to fit the document window to the document canvas.

In subsequent version updates since 25.3.1 the "+" sign is no longer there by default, but is replaced by an icon (two diagonally opposing arrows) with the options to Enter Full Screen or Tile Window to Left or Right of Screen. I was informed by Adobe Technical Support that the missing "+" was a bug which they'd resolve in future updates.

In Photoshop 25.9.0 the "+" sign is still absent by default, but now there's a way to now make it appear...

On a Mac, position the cursor over the green button (a list of 3 options appear), then press and hold down the Option key (a list of 3 new options appear -top of the list is Zoom). Select Zoom and the document window will proceed to fit the canvas size. Problem solved!

This is annoying. Now I have to hold down the option key 1 million more times a day than I used to because I use the + feature a lot. More ways to have carpal tunnel. I prefer using the f key to see full screen, why mess with us this way?

Hi Kevin,

I'd previously tried with "Enable Native Full Screen" activated to see if it made any difference to the behaviour -it didn't. I've just tried it again, but it also activates the Application Frame by default (not what I want), and it cannot be inactivated, because it's greyed out.
