Dodge Brush Tool

Since updating our Photo editors PS to v26.8.1 we have a lag issue when using the Dodge Brush Tool.

This occurs despite using either highlights, shadows or mid-tones. Brush size is 1750px on a product image in .ARW format.

His machine specs are:

  • Ryzen 9 7900X
  • 32GB 6000mhz CL30
  • 5060Ti
  • Dedicated 1TB Gen4 nvme scratch disk.
  • PS runs on the OS drive which is also a Gen4 drive.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have disabled multi threaded compositing and GPU acceleration and tested different combinations.

Hi @Nathan36203058k6nq

Thanks for sharing the details. I hope the suggestions above were helpful. If not, we’ve recently released version 26.10—if you haven’t updated already, please update and let us know if that helps.

Regards,

Srishti

Are you referring to the Dodge tool in the toolbar? The Dodge tool is inherently destructive, meaning it permanently modifies pixel data unless applied to a duplicated layer — and even then, its outcomes can be imprecise and more challenging to fine-tune. Today, there are more controlled, non-destructive alternatives available that offer significantly better flexibility and results.

We are talking about a fairly large drawing area, I think that this is directly related to the brush size. On my rtx 5080, 64 gb it also slows down (and as far as I remember, when using huge brushes, it was like that before)
