Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue with Photoshop 2026 on Windows 11.
Photoshop opens normally and I can create/edit blank documents, but it instantly crashes when opening:
- JPG/JPEG files
- RAW files
- Lightroom “Edit in Photoshop”
PNG files open correctly without problems.
Also, clicking Preferences > Camera Raw crashes Photoshop immediately.
System:
- Predator Helios 300
- i7 10th Gen
- RTX 2060
- Lightroom Classic 2026

Things already tried:
- Reinstalled Photoshop, Lightroom, and Camera Raw
- Reset Photoshop preferences
- Disabled GPU acceleration
- Installed NVIDIA Studio Driver
- Cleared Camera Raw cache/settings
- Disabled plugins
- Restarted Windows multiple times

Has anyone experienced Photoshop crashing only with JPG/JPEG and RAW files while PNG works fine?

Thank you!

That’s the Camera Raw module (ACR) crashing, most likely because of a GPU problem. Jpegs by default open through ACR (you can change that in ACR preferences).

Disabling GPU in Photoshop does not disable it in ACR! They are independent.

See this troubleshooting guide. First of all, check the troubleshooting section 7 “Check and delete the TempDisableGPU3 or TempDisableGPU2 files

    https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/acr-gpu-faq.html

Next, I see this is a laptop. Then it probably has dual graphics, which is a known potential conflict and a recurring problem with laptops. Photoshop/ACR use the GPU for actual data processing, but there is no way to control which GPU is called at any time. That is entirely at the mercy of how the laptop manufacturer has configured the OS and the two drivers - and that can change in laptop updates. You can’t send data to one GPU and get a result from the other, so you may need to completely disable the integrated GPU from Windows Device Manager.
