Question

doing my 1st photoshop edits using PS CC 21.1.1 or later

1. What PS versions, ie., pre-CC, CC (up 21.1.2), is(are) the following tutorial intended for?:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/how-to/photo-editor.html?playlist=/services/playlist.helpx/products:SG_PHOTOSHOP_1_1/learn-path:key-techniques/playlist:topic/set-header:quick-starts/en_us.json&ref=helpx.adobe.com

2. I want to try my first photo edit usng a RAW file and editing non-destructively. How do I configure PS CC to use ACR, save the edits using a xmp file, store the xmp file next to the RAW file in its folder, and view the result without necessarily exporting the result to any file formal likeTIFF, JPEG, PSD, DNG, PNG, etc., etc. The tutorial mentioned in paragraph #1 does not cover that nor does it tell me anything useful.

3. If I follow the Crop and straighten, Remove unwanted content, Add creative effects, Sharpen and save features as suggested in the tutorial, is that done non-destructively so the edit instructions are stored in an xmp file or would they be done destructively?

4. Why doesn't the edit panel in PS/ACR allow me to do edits like the Develop Panel does in Lightroom? How do I perform the same extent and variety of edits in PS/ACR as I would in Lightroom? Is it necessary to do all editing possible in Lightroom 1st, then use PS/ACR for some additional edits functions unavailable in LR which are probably destructive?

You can do some edits in RAW then continue and complete your edits in Photoshop - you can save the resulting file as a PSD format and also make copies (Save As) in other formats for paticular purposes, such as JPG for use in the web and social media. As you have the original, possibly layered PSD you can return to it for further edits. If you want to keep the RAW file with the sidecar edits, save it as a DNG.

Whatever you do make backup external copies of all your images - originals and edited versions.
