Question

Drawing using custom scale created in analysis

I am trying to draw a rectangle and/or line using the same scale as I set in the analysis toolbar.  So instead of one inch (or pixels) = 10 ft.  1 inch = 100 ft.  I know how to use the ruler tool to use the measurement scale.  I have done that.  But after I have set the scale I want to be able to draw a rectangle or line using the same scale as I set in the analysis custom measurement.  When I use a rectangle marquee I am able to click and drag a box that is close but I cannot figure out how to input exact measurements using that scale or draw a line using that scale.  When I use the ruler I can click and drag and figure the angle.  But then I have to draw over them.  When I use the rectangle marque or the rectangle shape tool and go into the transform menu it is based on the default not the custom scale.  Help.  I have been looking for days.  I think I have seen this in medical images (at least the lines).  TYIA

    Hi

Photoshop works in pixels and the document rulers (as opposed to the ruler tool) show the numbers in pixels or in measured units based on the document resolution. So you could do this:

Lets say your custom measurement scale is 100 pixels represents 10 feet

I've placed a marker showing that

Go to image >Image size and uncheck resample then set the document resolution to match. So if 100 pixels represents 10 feet then that is 8.3333 pixels per inch

Now set the ruler at the top of the screen to inches and it will match the scale size, as will the guides when you draw your rectangle

Once done before printing , go to Image > Image size and change the resolution back to your default - again with resample unchecked

    I hope that helps

Dave's answer was very helpful.  The only thing I will add is once the steps above are taken, in order to draw a rectangle to a specific size using the same scale as the custom scale set - I selected the rectangle shape tool then at the top on the drop down arrow I selected Rectangle options- Fixed size and entered the inches of the rectangle I wanted
