EPS file transparency dont work in Photoshop

When I place a EPS file in Photoshop the transparency disappears and a white background is created behind the image/eps. When I open an old file, with the same EPS file it work, but when I place the same file or any other EPS file the transparency disappears. How do I solv this!?

You can avoid the issue by saving the file as an ai or pdf instead of an eps.

Or, and this admittedly seems like a pretty problematic work-around, open the eps as »Generic EPS« and convert that to a Smart Object.

Or roll back to a previous Photoshop version.

PDF still places/imports with a white background. It's not clear to me why neither EPS nor PDF formats exported from PS don't maintain transparency. (Also, the save vs save as vs save as copy vs export dialogs is an utter mess)

No, you seem to be late to the party.

Just reinstate the old way if you prefer it.

Why would eps maintain transparency? eps would need a Clipping Path to approximate transparency.

Can you post a file and the resulting pdf?

This has been reported in several threads. See

Rolling back to a previous version using the CC app works.
Another workaround is this:
Windows: use File>Open As Generic EPS
Mac: highlight the EPS file in the Photoshop open dialog and select Generic EPS from the Format dropdown menu."

This is still a problem in a version of PS downloaded less than a week ago (September 2023). A pretty big bug IMO.
