After updating Photoshop, my EPS files are automatically opened up before I can resize them. It was working fine before then. I'm on a macOS Big Sur 11.4
Other computer specs:
Processor: 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
RAM: 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB
Is this a bug in the new update or am I doing something improperly with the latest update?

Thanks Jeff but I tried that first thing. I forgot to mention that in my initial post. I was hoping that would solve the issue but it didn't.

I didn't think you were a beginner and I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Something wonky is going on but I can't duplicate your issue on my end as .eps files are opening in PS with the right prompts to size for me. Maybe a rollback is the solution for now since you've tried everything else?

"I didn't think you were a beginner..."
I logged in one day, posted the forum, and noticed that it created a new user with a generic name and profile. It lists me as a "Community Beginner" and I'm not even sure how that happened. My login info worked just fine, but for some reason it thought I was new. It's all very strange. LOL

The forum is not your Adobe ID! Just as a side note. So if you are a forum beginner, that normally means that you did not post a lot here…

Yes the same issue here on both windows and mac versions of photoshop 2021 (version 22.4.3) with vector eps files from Adobe Illustrator like this one saved from Illustrator cs2.
(the file is just a symbol included in the illustrator install and saved as an Illustrator eps)
On windows one can use File>Open As Generic EPS and on mac highlight the eps file in the photoshop open dialog and select Generic EPS from the Format dropdown menu.
I reset the preferences on both versions after the 22.4.3 update.
Opened fine on both mac and windows before the 22.4.3 update.

I'm having the same problem.
PC / Windows 10.
When I drag-drop, place, or relink an EPS file into my Photoshop file its coming up as a bitmap image.
Haven't had this problem before - Not happy.

I have the same problem. This is a major bug and it seems to me as if PS dont display EPS dialog box. Instead we are getting generic indexed file. I've rolled back to previous version and it's fine now.

I have done the same - rolled back to the earlier version.
All good now and my preferences seemed to have remained unchanged

Same for me on a Windows. Version 22.4.3 seems to have this bug. My colleague has the lower version and there everything works fine.

Hi @spicOne
Did you roll back as others in this thread have done and also report it to Adobe in the link posted earlier?
This is a user forum. The Feedback forum is for reporting bugs to the product developers.

I'm having the same problem, and I revert to 22.4.2, and it worked now. A nasty bug in version 22.4.3. 😝

Appears to be a bug. Instead of saving out my Illustrator files in EPS format, I used SVG, which worked for rasterizing into PhotoShop. (I did convert fonts to "Outlines" before saving the SVG, which I did not do with the EPS. I haven't tested if this makes any difference.

As a workaround you can open as a Generic EPS. This method is working for me on v.22.4.3 Windows 10 Pro. Let us know if it's a temporary fix for you or roll back a version if that's stable for you.

@kenh73330842 Just to make sure you (and others reading) are aware of the difference between those file formats, for a print workflow-based scenario, EPS is the best choice since SVG lacks printing capabilities.

Yes, good point. I do keep my original EPS file and only save the SVG files to work around the bug in question. Thank you.

EPS is considered by Adobe as a legacy format. Vector files I work with are stored preferentially as Illustrator files with a PDF preview. The PDF is what Adobe applications like InDesign and Photoshop use to place a vector file. Normally they should also understand EPS, however. But EPS has some disadvantages, like no support for transparency.

"But EPS has some disadvantages, like no support for transparency."
What? Am I misreading this, or have I not been using EPS files with transparancy for ...literally decades?

Hi
HAd the same issue and just saw that you can Open As Smart Object ... and this opens the usual EPS format dialog box.

Yeah this is a bug. Workaround is to use 'File Open' then select 'Generic EPS' as the file type you are opening.

I was having the same issue...my .eps files created in Illustrator 2021 (version 25.3.1) on my mac (macOS Catalina 10.15.7) at 300 dpi were opening automatically in 2021 Photoshop (22.4.3 Release) as Index files at 72 dpi. I tried what someone in this thread said to do which was open the file in photoshop as a generic eps and it worked...came up as 300 dpi. I'm not sure why we need to do this but that is what just worked for me. I spent hours chatting with Adobe and no one seemed to know how to fix it. I was lucky to read one of the responses below to get it to work.
