EPS Files wont save as a transparency

I am creating logos in which I need a transparent background. I have searched many forums including this one and all the answers diddnt work. I require a step by step (every step) approach to ensure that I get a transparent background.

I have tried saving an EPS file through illistrator and Photoshop. They all turn out to give a white background.

Hello! I followed this link (copied below) on a fairly complicated illustration and with a little patience and room for error it worked - I had to go in with erase tool after I accomplished the transparent background in order to remove minutia of background. I had an illustrated tree on a white background - so the tiny crevices within the branches needed a zoom and tiny eraser. Funnt. 2025, 14 years later, and you answered a question for me. I needed to make sure I was right before just saying no to a client. Clearly there is a way but it feels lije giving them the recipe. When ckients wonder why theu don't get to keep the natuve file I usually say this: when you eat at a restaurant, you pay for the final priduct. You aren't going to get the recipe. Lol then they get it. Well off track but thanks. Dome posts are just the gift thsr keeps on giving. I can't believe I can still post here, that its not been  closed.

    EPS is a legacy format with limited transparency handling. You'd do much better using native PSDs, TIFFs, PDFs etc.. And of course Marian is right - all transparency handling is dependent on the target rendering device/ app actually interpreting transparency and handling it correctly. You won't see any transparancy in most simpel image viewers, but it may perfectly show up when you move your logos from PS to InDesign or whatever...

    Where do they give a white background? How are you viewing these? Where are they being placed?

    Illustrator is the ideal tool for logo design as Photoshop's vector support is very limited. An EPS/PDF/AI file from Illustrator can have a transparent background. You do not need to make a clipping path in Illustrator.

    Your eps file needs a clipping path...

    Let's use a vector shape for an example.

    After you draw out your shape, double click on the path in the paths panel to make it a permanent path. Then in the upper right hand corner of the paths panel click on the small icon and select clipping path.

    Now when you save as eps, your image will have a transparent background.

    If your image is raster, then you will need to make a selection and convert to a path or use the pen tool and create a path around your image and create your clipping path.
