Eraser tool shortcut does not stay on

Hi,

In Photoshop, when I press the E key for eraser the eraser is active only while I have the key pressed down. It has always been a switch key - when I press E switches to eraser even after I release the key. This is very annoying because I can't change the size of the eraser under this condition. I have to go to the toolbar and click on the tool there. Is this a setting of some sort?

Thank you for your help!

I'm struggling to think of a setting that would cause this behaviour, so I am going to take a punt on Photoshop having it's knickers in a twist.  Things to try:  Reset the tool.

Select the Essentials workspace and reset the Essentials workspace.

If still not working, reset Preferences.

If you are not in a mad rush, I'd leave off resetting Preferences to give other people a chance to reply, but the other steps have no real downside.  Good luck.

Hi, thank you for the suggestion. I had other strange behaviors and had to manually reset the preferences and this helped with all of the issues.
