Question

I'm getting an error that reads "Could not open filename because the file is already in use or was left open by another application." anytime I attempt to open a photoshop file on my main work PC. I have uninstalled everything Adobe I have installed and reinstalled just CC and Photoshop, but the problem persists.

I too am having this issue - trying to open a file located in creative cloud 'my files' and getting that message. File is 2 years old and have not opened since then.

Hi there,

Sorry that you cannot open files from Library in Photoshop and getting an error message "could not open filename because the file is already in use or was left open by another application".

Which version of Photoshop are you using and on which operating system? Also, are you opening files from Creative Cloud Library or Mac Library(if you on macOS)?

To get started, checkout this discussion https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/could-not-complete-ur-request-because-the-file-is-already-in-use-or-was-left-open-by-another-file

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Akash

Hi there. The thread that you linked to is not helpful because I can not open files, which is fundamentally different from having a file open and not being able to save it. I have tried this on all current Photoshop releases from 20.0.9 to 21.1.3 on two different Windows 10 PCs. I'm opening inside the photoshop app attempting to edit library elements and I am not able to. Thanks.
