ERROR LOADING A PATTERN I DOWNLOADED

I downloaded a pattern and I've been trying to import it into photoshop but I keep getting this error message- Could not load the patterns "file name" because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop. How can I fix this?

What version of Photoshop and windows are you using? Can you give a link to where you downloaded the pattern file from?
