disk space restriction issues with photoshop v26

Correct answer creative explorer

@steavonh9793487 you're getting "disk space restriction" issues with Photoshop v26 — double check you have ample free space on the drive(s) designated as Photoshop's scratch disk(s). Go to Edit > Preferences > Scratch Disks. Have at least 50-100 GB (or more for large files) free on the fastest drive you have designated as a scratch disk. Also check your main drive for overall free space. Windows and macOS need room to breathe and create their own temporary files. If needed, regular purge Photoshop's internal caches via Edit > Purge > All. Hopefully that helps

Fixes for “Scratch Disk Full” or Disk Space Errors:

Change Scratch Disk

  • Open Photoshop → Preferences > Scratch Disks

  • Select a drive with more free space (e.g., D:/external SSD)

  • Or hold Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Cmd+Opt (Mac) while launching Photoshop to change disk at startup

    Free Up Space

    • Delete unnecessary files from your system drive

    • Empty Trash/Recycle Bin

    • Run Disk Cleanup (Win) or Storage Management (Mac)

      Clear Photoshop Temp Files

      • In Photoshop: Edit > Purge > All

      • Manually delete temp files in:

        • Windows: C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\Temp

        • Mac: /Users/<YourName>/Library/Caches/

          Lower History & Cache Usage

          • Preferences > Performance

          • Set History States to 20

          • Set Cache Levels to 2–4

            Clear Creative Cloud Files

            • Delete unused files from ~/Creative Cloud Files/
