Export Data Sets as files always freezes

I do a lot of work with variables and data sets. Without fail, almost every time I Export Data Sets as Files, Photoshop freezes on me after the third or fourth data set. I have to force quite and start over. As a workaround, I will shut everything down and restart my computer and a few sets will be fine, but then it goes back to freezing. Any thought on why this happens and what I can do to remedy?

Correct answer ChristineBird

My problem turned out to be hardware-related. I was consistently having the described problem when I was exporting to a large but slow, Western Digital external hardrive. When I ran the data merge directly to the iMac drive it worked fine. Then I simply copied the files to the external. I know my solution is probably unique to me, but that's what solved it here. Hope you find a solution too. I was soooo frustrating.

Perhaps a scripted result will have a different outcome...

After a couple years of flawless Export Data as Files, I am suddnely having this exact problem. After force quitting, quitting all other apps, and restarting the iMac I was able to complete one export (of 51 data files) successfully. After that PS hung up at different points in the process every time. The highest number of successful exports was 31. Using PS 2024. Were you able to solve your issue? Any help appreciated!

Hi ChristineBird!

It looks like you’re commenting on an older thread. I’d suggest creating a new one for better visibility in the future. Could you share an example of what you’re seeing on your end and let me know which version of Photoshop and macOS you’re using?

Thanks,

Shivani
