External Drive Not Recognized as Scratch disk in Photoshop on Windows 10

I've seen this problem posted, but without a solution, so trying again...

 

I'm wanting to use my externsl

drive as a scratch disk on my Windows 10 laptop.  The drive is listed and usable in File Explorer.  But, does not appear in the list of drives to use as a scratch disk.  I've formatted as both NTFS and FAT, but that doesn't matter either way.  Help!  Why can't photoshop

see the drive????

I got this working! I had a LaCie journalled, would not show as scratch disk. Did one small change and now it's recognised. 

Cables are not made equally. If you've ever seen a video on what's inside of cheap vs expensive cables you would understand, some don't have the same things connected. I used a different cable, not a cheap one I was using, not a multi-connect usb port, but a single decent cable and photoshop recognised the drive. Cheap cable, it didn't. Maybe the cheap one can't supply the power needed, maybe the required terminal isn't connected, but it worked.

We are sorry about the experience with Photoshop. Would you mind sharing the version of Photoshop you are using? Have you tried connecting any other drive to check if this is happening with a particular drive or all of them?

 

Please ensure you have all the available Windows updates installed on the computer. You can also try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/2Qzc0K3

I am using Photoshop 2020, version 21.1.3 20200508.r.190

 

I don't have another drive to try.

 

what do you suggest I do to resolve?

Hi Steve,

Have you tried to reset the Preferences for Photoshop as suggested to check if that helps? You can also check if Photoshop has the correct permissions. Please check: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/required-permissions-photoshop-cs5-windows.html
