I think face liquify will always be grayed out whenever the triangle with the question mark (⚠️) is displayed next to face-aware liquify. It is notable that you are not warned about lacking hardware acceleration.

Solve the basic issue first.

Gesicht #1 is recognized (or else that box would read 'no faces detected'), but something is causing face-aware liquify to be disabled.

Thanks for the updates. Please ensure there are no stale preferences in your Photoshop. You can go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to back it up. (https://adobe.ly/3u7u84j)

This method is more effective compared to the in-app Reset Preferences at quit method.

macOS: Hold down the Option key in the Finder when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.

Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2025 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2025.old)

This will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a new installation.

Let me know if it helps. Thanks!

Hey, @pets. Thanks for adding the screenshots. If it has been like this for years, it could be possible that you've set up Photoshop to work in the Rosetta mode.

Try this:

Go to Finder > Applications > Photoshop > Open the Photoshop Folder > CMD+Click or right-click on the Photoshop Application within the folder > Get Info > Uncheck the box for Open with Rosetta.

Let me know if this helps. Thanks!

thanks,

i work on 2 macs, yesterday, when i posted this, was a mac studio m1 ultra and currently on a different laptop macbook pro with m1 max. 64GB RAM and 128GB RAM the other one. 4TB SSD drive each.

rosetta checkbox is off.

the secondary mac shows same behavior since years, no face liquify possible.

i could live with it, but does anyone know, if there is a specific statement by adobe?
