Generative upscale crashes Photoshop

@Shane31588942dzdj Since Photoshop is crashing even when creating a new file, the issue likely stems from corrupt preferences or graphics card conflicts rather than just Generative Upscale. Before digging into crash logs, try resetting your preferences by going to Edit > Preferences > General (or Photoshop > Settings > General on Mac) and clicking Reset Preferences On Quit, then restart Photoshop. You should also check for pending GPU driver updates or temporarily toggle off GPU Performance under Preferences > Performance to see if stability returns. If the crash persists, posting your exact Photoshop version, OS version, and crash report log from Help > System Info will help pinpoint the precise cause.

Hey, @Shane31588942dzdj. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out. Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload & attach here. 

I've tried the Generative Upscale workflow, and they're working as expected. Follow this method; it is more effective than the in-app "Reset Preferences at quit" method. 

macOS: Hold down the Option key in the Finder when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.

Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2026 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2026.old)

This will force Photoshop to download the models again.

​@Shane31588942dzdj Out of curiosity, what are your system specs? I'm running a MacBook Pro M5 Max with 64 GB of RAM, and Generative Upscale has been working fine for me. I haven't experienced any crashes
