Generative upscale crashes Photoshop

Question

I tried 'Generative upscale' which is a third party feature. Firstly, it didn’t work at all. Secondly, it broke Photoshop, which now crashes on creating a new file. No choice but to uninstall, reinstall, and never use this feature again - at least, until it's been integrated as a safe Adobe feature and not this third party trash. For the record, generative upscale would be extremely useful if it worked!

Hey, @Shane31588942dzdj. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out. Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload & attach here.

I've tried the Generative Upscale workflow, and they're working as expected. Follow this method; it is more effective than the in-app "Reset Preferences at quit" method.

macOS: Hold down the Option key in the Finder when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.

Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2026 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2026.old)

This will force Photoshop to download the models again.
