Question

Getting white border in spot color channel selections

Super new to setting up spot colors and it's a little hard to find tutorials that aren't for textile screen printing.

I have files for some playing cards being printed with pantone cmyk coated. When I try to select a color range and make a channel, I'm getting white artifacting where colors should meet, I assume because they're somewhat detailed? Image attached as example.

How do I resolve this? Is this a matter of my base color actually needing to be printed first and extended underneath every other color, or maybe trapping, or maybe just expanding the selection?

@mmairo

Please provide a crop of the originals and the same as you are converting to spot channels. The RGB PNG that you posted shows the problem in composite, but that is only a general guide of the issue.

How many colours are being printed? What are the exact spot colours and or CMYK?

I am not sure i get it…

Do you mean you want to select colors areas on a RGB image and then place on separate CMYK chanels for Pantone printing?

When selecting by color range you can play with a few settings…

Could you post the original image so we could try to experiment a solution?
