Question

Glitch when adjusting masks in properties panel

After setting a mask's feather or opacity setting in the mask properties panel I frequently am stunned when at any random moment the file looks corrupt with blocks appearing in random areas of the image. Zooming in/out can change this effect but it's scary not knowing if it's just a graphics issue or an actual corruption of the file. This has been going on for many years--maybe as long as the mask properties function has existed. I have discovered that I can solve the issue by zeroing out whatever mask opacity or feather I had set and then re-applying it. I have gotten very used to just blurring with filters or adjusting masks with levels/curves but sometimes the function of being able to keeping record of the adjustments is very useful.

Is there any way to solve this issue on my end?

(never resolved>> https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/glitch-when-adjusting-masks-in-properties-panel/m-p/14799247#M825455)

Sometimes when I've adjusted a mask's opacity or feather in the Properties panel at some point later parts of the mask (or image) get cut out and create areas that a person with less experience with the issue would assume is a corrupted file. Zoomed in at 100% or more it goes away but when zoomed out at various scales it goes haywire. I then have to find the mask(s) that have opacity or feather adjustments in the Properties panel and zero them out. Once doing that the problem is solved.

My workaround has been to only use those functions temporarily when working (almost as a tool for previewing before committing to the move) then applying those numbers to the mask itself either through blur or levels. But it's very frustrating as there's no way to know when this is going to happen.

Is this a graphics issue? Could be but it happens on massive files and small files alike, but completely at random (I think). Its also been happening to me on various suped up systems set up for high end post production.

HELP!

Hey, defaultverjr85fjunl! Welcome to the Photoshop Ecosystem Community. I'll help you figure this out.

Please share the system info of Photoshop from Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > Upload as an attachment here.
