Question

GPU Runtime Error when using Adobe Camera Raw

Hi, looking for help with this dreaded GPU Runtime error.

Since updating to Photoshop v27 when it was released, I started getting this GPU Runtime error when editing a RAW file in ACR. Sometimes after editing just 1 image, occasionally after editing 2. I never had it before. All I could do was close PS then open it again. Using Windows 11.

I rolled back to PS v26 but still got the error, so went back to PS v27 in the hope that a future update might solve the problem. I am now on Photoshop v27.2 and Adobe Camera Raw 18.1.1

My graphics card is an nVidia GeForce GTX 1650 with 4GB RAM and have the latest Studio Driver, 32.0.15.9174 dated 30.12.2025.

Having searched the internet for suggestions I have already tried the following :

Going into the Advanced Graphics Processor Settings in Photoshop  (Edit >Preferences>Performance) I have disabled all the options in there.
 i.e.      Use Open CL
            Anti alias Guides
            30bit display

            GPU Compositing

Is there anything else to try or anything anyone can suggest please.

Please find attached a copy of my System Info.

Hey, @allachie9. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll move your response to discussions for now.

For now, after you update the GPU drivers, try the steps below and check how it goes. The GPU info & Logs location on Windows is %APPDATA%\Adobe\CameraRaw. A shortcut to get to this folder on Windows is:

  • Press the Windows + R
  • Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe\CameraRaw

  • Rename the GPU & Logs folder in this directory by adding .old at the end. (GPU.old & Logs.old)
  • Relaunch Photoshop.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Hi @Sameer K

Thanks for your response and offer of help.

I have done as you suggested and renamed the folders. After restarting Photoshop, unfortunately it is still freezing after, on this occasion, 2 RAW files.
My only option is to close PS, reopen and start again.
It's so frustrating after everything has worked perfectly for so many years.

Is there anything else I can try ?

Thanks again, I appreciate your help and advice,
Alan.
