Hand tool stuck in PS, and affects the whole Adobe apps LOL

The Hand tool just stuck, cannot switch to other tools in Photoshop. Funny enough, when this occurs, other app like Illustrator, InDesign, and perhaps other Adobe apps suffer the same problem. Therefore this is might beyond one app problem.

I have tried some which other found working;

  • Shift+Spacebar
  • Reset Tool
  • Reset Preferences

I also logout my Adobe, Quit everything named "Adobe" and "Creative Cloud". But not working at all.

The only thing working is restarting my Macbook Pro, which is definitely not convenient if the problem occurs multiple times everyday.

----

I see the pattern this problem occurring when I do split screen Adobe app with other app like browser (I use Edge) and I navigate the screen using pen tablet (I am using Huion H640) on my Macbook Pro M1 Pro. When I jump between those two different app, this problem highly likely occur.

I have Windows desktop and laptop, this problem is non existent.

Hey, @hekselsior. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out.

In the past, web browsers and browser extensions in the background have been linked to this unexpected behavior. Can you reset the browser and turn off any extensions in the browser temporarily?

Let us know how it goes. Thanks!

@Sameer K  I tried to recreate the problem and it seems something between my pen tablet and Adobe app itself or maybe GPU related too? Currently I managed to recreate the problem and solve it. So here's what happen:

  • I use Huion H640P with the latest drive, Macbook Pro M1 Pro latest updated Sequioa, latest Adobe apps as well.
  • I run a browser and Photoshop side by side. Whenever I scrolled a page in the browser with pen tablet button clicked, then when switched to Photoshop, the Hand tool will always activated (100% occurence). Stuck with it. Other Adobe apps follow suit, lol. But this only happen when using PS.
  •  Currently, the workaround is by simply clicking and drag the pen button again. OR, scroll again with the same way with the pen button clicked.

I will try this again during a real project setting to confirm whether this is actually work.

@hekselsior @Sameer K known issue with Macs and an easy fix.

Go to Apple System Settings/Keyboard/Text Input/Input Sources then click "Edit..."

Enable "Show Input menu in menu bar".

This will give you access to the Mac OS Virtual Keyboard. Go to your menu bar, click the icon and choose "Show Keyboard Viewer".

Then click (don't type) the spacebar with your cursor several times - and viola! Hand tool no more.

The issue is Mac OS holding spacebar virtually (not physically).
