Has my Photoshop CS5 finally died?

I've been happily using my copy of Photoshop CS5 for many years. I did have a plan sunscription for a while, but I wasn't really getting value for it. I cancelled my subscription and went back to CS5 - all is good. Or it was.

I updated my camera, and it now uses CR3 format, and I can't update my camera raw app. what seems a common event - "download failed to install, please contact customer services". None of the links provided work, nor do the solutions from the community archives. Is there anyway to get an update, or do I finally need to lay CS5 to rest....

The latest version of the Camera Raw plugin compatible with CS5 is version 6.7.

The current version of Camera Raw is 17.5.1.

To continue using CS5 with your new camera, you have to use the free Adobe DNG Converter to convert copies of the raw files to DNG files that can be opened in Camera Raw in CS5.

Read the instructions carefully, and make sure that Compatibility is set to Camera Raw 6.6 and later.

If your camera was just released, it might not be supported by Adobe yet, and you will have to wait for a new version of the DNG converter to be released. (the converter uses the same version numbering as Camera Raw)

You should also be aware that CS5 is totally unsupported, and if for instance your hard drive should fail, and you have used both your activations, Adobe will no longer reset activations for you.

The activation servers for CS5 are still running, but we have seen examples of users not being able to activate, even when they have one free seat.

CS5 is also so old that a Windows update or upgrade could cause it to stop working.

You can probably use the DNG converter. Make sure to set the appropriate compatibility level.

You need a DNG converter version new enough to support your camera model (support is camera model specific, not file format specific).

Just one thing to consider: ACR has improved enormously since 2010. It's really a different paradigm. With a current ACR version you can get a lot more out of your raw files. Just to pick one thing, modern noise reduction is a whole other proposition than the rather rudimentary and primitive noise reduction you have available in ACR 6.x. So how much is that worth to you?
