Issue Symptoms:

When first opening Photoshop, dragging selections works normally. After using it for a few minutes, dragged selections constantly follow the mouse cursor.

Clicking cannot cancel it, Ctrl+D is ineffective, and you cannot perform any other operations. You can only switch to other software or close Photoshop.

Version: Occurs on both Windows 11 64-bit and Photoshop 2025/2026. This issue emerged within the last ten days.

Sometimes when I click the Stamp Tool, it immediately switches to the Selection Tool.

Or when I click the Selection Tool, it instantly jumps to the Selection Tool.

Hi @dublove,

Thanks for reporting this. The behavior you described, selections “sticking” to the cursor, tools switching on their own, and Photoshop becoming unusable until you switch apps, is unusual and not something we’ve been able to reproduce internally so far.

To help diagnose it, could you please provide a few more details?

– Can you record a short screen capture showing the issue from the moment it starts? This will help us understand the exact workflow that triggers it.
– When the problem appears, does closing any background applications from Task Manager improve the behavior?
– Please try launching Windows in Safe Mode and then running Photoshop. This will help us confirm whether a background process or driver is involved.

Also, please copy & paste the System info from the help menu.

Once we have the recording and your findings, we can share them with the product engineering team for deeper investigation.

Regards,
Anshul Saini
