Help! Reflection Removal Not Working: Photoshop Produces a Black Layer, Camera Raw Produces a White Layer

I just installed Photoshop 27.11.0 on my Mac M4 running macOS Sequoia 15.7.3.

When I open a photo from Lightroom in Photoshop and try to use the Reflection Removal tool to remove reflections from a store window, it doesn't work. Photoshop creates a completely black Reflection Layer.

I've also tried using Camera Raw by going to Filter → Camera Raw Filter → Distraction Removal → Reflections but that produces a completely white layer instead.

I've confirmed that the image is 8-bit and have also tried converting it to a Smart Object, but neither has helped.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or found a solution? I'd really appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks so much!

I’m having the same issue on Camera Raw, Photoshop and Lightroom. Nothing happens. Reflections are never removed or minimized no matter the quality setting. I’m also in an M-series Mac running Tahoe 26.6.2.

Ran into a similar issue on my M-series Mac a while back. The black/white layer is usually a GPU rendering glitch — try going to Photoshop > Preferences > Performance and toggling the graphics processor off, restarting Photoshop, then turning it back on. If it persists, resetting preferences (hold Cmd+Alt+Shift while launching Photoshop) fixed it for good in my case. Hope that helps!

Thanks for these suggestions! Unfortunately, I’m still getting the black/white layer. Any other thoughts?

Hi, we're sorry that the suggestion didn't help. Could you share screenshots of the document and the Layers panel from Photoshop?

    Thanks,
