Help with text on Photoshop CC

When I try to add text, all I get is a dot and line forms to the right empty?

Are you looking at the T in the top Option Bar below the menu and not the vertical Toolbar?

Window menu > Options

There is no "reset" choce to click on when I do as you suggested Just four diffeent types of text. IE. vertical, horizontal etc.

Try something else?

First, reset the Type Tool. Right-click on that T and select Reset tool. Let me know if it works.
