I downloaded Helvetica Bold font from this site. In sqare bracket it says that [Free Sans Bold]. The name added to Ps is FreeSans . Is there any way change this name to Helvetica Bold in Ps? or How to handle this type of  situation?

Hi @MahaB82A_

I know this is an older thread, but I wanted to add an update that may help new users visiting this thread. Most Helvetica fonts are now available directly in Photoshop through Adobe Fonts, so you no longer need to install them manually in many cases.

How to access them:

  1. Make sure you're signed in to the Creative Cloud desktop app.
  2. In Photoshop, open the Type menu (or the font dropdown in the Character panel) and select Find more from Adobe Fonts.
  3. Search for "Helvetica" and click Activate.
  4. The font will automatically sync and become available across your Adobe apps.

You can also browse and activate Helvetica directly here: https://fonts.adobe.com/search/fonts?query=helvetica

Hope this helps anyone who comes across this thread in the future!

Helvetica isn't actually free. It can be purchased from Linotype via MyFonts.com here:

https://www.myfonts.com/collections/helvetica-font-linotype?tab=familyPackages&queryId=&eventName=Product%20Clicked&index=universal_search_data&objectIDs=5834499000&positions=3

The Basic Family Pack should get you the essentials at $172.

The one you have is a free clone/ripoff. How much different it has to be from the original to avoid copyright issues I don't know.

Having Helvetica as the default system font (or even having it included at all) is the one thing I always envied Mac users. Is it still there in MacOS?

Great documentary if you can find it:

Thanks for the information. There was a font site by Adobe to add in  Ps. I couldn't find out that again. Do you know the link?
