History panel only shows one action state for each action used

After update, the action is just one point in the history.

I can't see all the steps.

Often, I only need to undo one or a few steps, not the entire action.

How can I change this?

Hey, @bartekbrosz. Thanks for bringing this up. Before you switch back to Classic Actions, as suggested by @Ged_Traynor. Try this in the Actions Panel > go to Menu > Playback Options > History > uncheck ‘Create a single history state’ > Okay, and check how it goes.

    Thanks!

You can still edit action steps with the new interface - in three different ways:

    • with the action highlighted, the gear icon takes you directly to edit
    • right-click and “edit action”
    • click the three dots, ditto

I think this interface works well. A very welcome change for me is that you launch the action with a single click. It’s the best of normal and button mode, rolled into one.

I use Actions extensively. When an Action requires something in the History palette to function, the new default behavior that doesn’t record all the steps in History also makes the Action malfunction. So I had to turn this feature off, even though conceptually I like it.

    Try this:

Open the panel menu (hamburger icon) in the top-right corner and select Classic Actions.

With the new 27.6 Photoshop update, the Actions panel has had a makeover.

Before, you could expand an Action and select any point within that action to start from. Now, it appears you can only start the action as a whole.

Depending on where the file is in my workflow depends where I wish to start the action from. Does this ability still exist and I’m missing it? Or can this feature be brought back?

I can only see the gear function, that edits the action, but you can’t start the action half way through from here.

I've already done that. I'm talking about the history panel.
