Question

Hitting enter closes font menu without applying selected font

Ever since the redesigned font menu was implemented, I can search for fonts easily and use the arrow keys to highlight a font, but hitting enter closes the font menu without applying that font to the selected text. I have to click the font I want with my mouse.

Will this be fixed?

Hi @noktulo! Thank you for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear about your issue. Unfortunately, I was unable to reproduce this issue on my Windows machine. Could you please share the version of Photoshop you're on and the version of your operating system? Are you presented with any error messages/codes when this happens? If so, please share a screenshot.

Try this, for a quick fix:

1) Reset Photoshop's Preferences: Make sure to back them up first. Here's how you back up the preferences: Backup and restore preferences, and here's how you reset them: Reset preferences

2) Reset the Photoshop font cache: https://adobe.ly/3KsEoga

If the above steps don't work, please try out more of the suggestions from the HelpX article mentioned in step (2).

Hope this helps!

Please use @ when mentioning my username so that I can get notified as soon as possible.

@Noel Orridge Here is a screen recording showing the issue: https://imgur.com/a/VOo1vxY

As you can see, I type the name of a font I want to use, it is highlighted, and I hit enter. The font does not change. Even if I then go and click the exact font I want to use, it does not change. I have to change to a different font first, then select the original font I wanted.

I am on Photoshop 27.0.0 on Mac OS 26.1, but I have had this issue consistently since the new font menu debuted last year.

Resetting preferences does not fix it. Deleting the font cache does not delete it. This occurs on both my work Macbook Pro signed into my corporate Adobe license, and my personal Macbook Pro signed into my personal license.

Are you able to recreate this on MacOS?

After typing a few letters in the font field, several fonts may be listed in the font menu as a result of the search. Use up and down arrow keys to select and highlight a font, and then hit return key. You need to do this even single font is listed and already highlighted in the font menu. Clicking on the font name should work also.
