Question

How can I remove the white background from this image of an American Flag, but keep the white stripes in the flag?

I’m trying to get the white background removed from this image of the American flag image. But, obviously, I want to keep the white in the stripes. Is there a quick and easy way to to that? I have been trying different tools, but I can’t seem to isolate the background without also selecting the stripes.

It already has  no background, so just turn off the background layer if it is filled with white, and Save As a PNG

Hmmm… I right-clicked and copied, then pasted into Ps.
I right-clicked, Saved to the desktop.

Both methods resulted in webp files.
Both ways resulted in a perfectly-preserved flag, with red and blue stripes and no background!

I might have suggested trying the Object Selection tool, for one.
