Question

How can I save pdfs compatible to be open and seen in other apps? I used to do this in previous photoshop versions without an issue, just reinstall and PDFs are not readable. Do I have a bug in my photoshop?

I recently installed in my new computer photoshop. I have used it in the past in many previous versions. I used to save as with layers, or as a flat copy and others without photoshop could see the PDFs. I can no longer do that. Is this a Photoshop settings issue, bug or it was changed to no longer export or make PDFs that can be seen elsewhere but in Photoshop?

Hi Hilda, no — Photoshop can still save a PDF that other apps can open. It has not changed to Photoshop-only PDFs, so this is most likely a setting in the Save Adobe PDF dialog. Please try it this way: Go to File > Save As, choose Photoshop PDF, then click Save. In the Save Adobe PDF dialog, choose an Adobe PDF Preset that matches how the PDF will be used, for example High Quality Print for general sharing and printing. If the other app is older, set Compatibility to an older Acrobat version in the same dialog, then save. You can also tick Color to embed the colour profile, and Layers only if you want to keep the PDF editable in Photoshop — a flattened copy without Layers is fine for viewing elsewhere. Official guide: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/desktop/save-and-export/save-files/save-as-photoshop-pdf.html If it still will not open elsewhere, please tell us which app you are opening it in and what message you see there.

Thanks for your quick response! I will try saving in the oldest version. I did save as for versions 7 and 9, also tested with and without layers, I didn’t try doing a print though.
