How do I stop generative fill from starting automatically?

When I decide to expand my image. Generative fill  starts as soon as I click check.  How do I stop it from doing this automatically?

Of course you can stop it:

You have to pick background default from the drop-down menu instead of the generative menu, and with  it pick unconstrained.

Can you describe what you mean by 'Click check'?  Is Check the tick mark in the Options bar?

A screen shot would be helpful.

The check is when you agree to the crop. At the top of the image.  You have a check mark, 
Once I click it. The AI generator starts. If I cancel. It also cancels the crop.  This is very annoying, and messes with my workflow. 
Is there a way to stop it from running every single time I crop an image?
