How do you straiten a SINGLE layer in photoshop cs6?

How can you straiten a single layer in CS6?

I know you can select the CROP TOOL, click the straiten icon and draw a line along the a line that should be strait... but it changes the entire document... how can you limit the straitening effect to the layer you are working on only?

Yes you can straighten a single layer.

Select the ruler tool and put it along an edge you want to straighten

With your required layer selected click on "Straighten Layer " in the options bar

      Hi jane-e          

      I'm just a newcomer - I've only used it since 2003.  I still learn something new every few days though!

      We get so used to the newer features, and bells and whistles, that we sometimes forget about the very useful options hidden away in the "old" tools.

        It's true that you can't straighten a single layer, but you also can't have a guide on an angle AFAIK.

        So I would do this:

        Save

        Crop tool > begin to straighten > watch the tool tip and memorize the rotation number (or write it down if you are me)

        Undo the Crop

        Cmd + T for Free Transform

        Options bar > type the rotation > accept the transformation for the layer

        Voilà!

        There is no straighten for a single layer. You would need to set a guide and use transform to rotate the layer to match the guide.
