Question

How is Generative AI like Adobe Firefly changing the future of creative workflows in Photoshop and design tools?

Hi Adobe Community,

My name is ธนมน โสภณธนวัฒน์ (Thanamon Sophonthanawat), and I’ve been deeply curious about how artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping the creative industry, especially within Adobe’s ecosystem.

Over the past few years, tools like Adobe Firefly, AI-powered features in Photoshop, and intelligent automation in Illustrator have started to change not just how we design, but how we think about design itself. What used to take hours of manual effort—such as background generation, object removal, image expansion, or even concept sketching—can now be done in seconds with generative AI.

This shift feels both exciting and overwhelming at the same time.

On one hand, AI seems to unlock a completely new level of creativity. Designers can now experiment faster, explore more variations of an idea, and push visual boundaries without being limited by technical execution. For example, instead of spending time building complex composites manually, we can focus more on storytelling, composition, and creative direction.

On the other hand, I’m also wondering how this transformation affects the role of designers in the long term. If AI can generate high-quality visuals instantly, what becomes the unique value of a human designer? Is it taste, concept development, art direction, or something even deeper?

I’m also interested in the practical side of using AI effectively:

  • How can designers maintain consistency and brand identity when using AI-generated assets?
  • What are the best prompting strategies in tools like Adobe Firefly to get professional-level results rather than random outputs?
  • How do experienced designers integrate AI into real commercial workflows without losing creative control?
  • And importantly, what are the limitations or risks we should be aware of when relying heavily on AI in professional design projects?

It feels like we are in a transitional era where traditional design skills and AI-assisted creativity are blending together. Some say AI will replace parts of the design process, while others believe it will simply elevate human creativity to a higher level.

From your experience in the Adobe community, how do you personally see this evolution? Are we moving toward a future where designers become more like “creative directors of AI,” or will hands-on design skills always remain essential?

I would really appreciate insights, real-world experiences, and even disagreements. I’m trying to understand not just the tools themselves, but the bigger picture of where creative work is heading.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
