How-to do question: Animal footprints in snow

Hello, I am working on a a picture and would like to add animal footprints (in the snow). I have pngs of the footprints (black on trasparent background) and tried using color overlays and the Bevel/Emboss function, it is better than nothing, but net yet as I had in mind. It does not have to look as realistic as footprints in real photos, as the style of the picture is in between photo & illustration, and the footprints don't have to be deep, just hints of footprints. Is Bevel/Emboss is the right layer effect for creating footprints? I have never done animal tracks before, so advice would be great... thanks!

    Hi

Blur the prints slightly then use bebel and emboss, matching the light angle to the sunlight. Set the blend mode to multiply and turn fill down very low.

    I hope that helps you
