The other question is, why are you using a method that takes three clicks? There are multiple ways to get a JPEG or PNG out of Photoshop. Maybe additional training will solve the problem? For example:

1. If you know you always want a JPEG, and you always want it to be the same settings, configure the Quick Export feature and set it up for JPEG at the settings you require. This is a one-time setup; once you set it up you don’t have to do it again. This feature also supports PNG.

2. After you configure those settings, now you can export a JPEG by choosing File > Export > Quick Export. It will export using the settings you already set up, so you don’t have to go through any dialog boxes.

Bonus: If you use Edit > Keyboard Settings to assign a keyboard shortcut of your choice to Quick Export, you can just press the shortcut, and now you have exported a JPEG or PNG at your preconfigured settings with no clicks!

If this solves your problem, then it means the Adobe engineers were years ahead of you, were already aware that, in the middle of a busy production day, there needed to be a faster way to export JPEG and PNG images than the old macOS/Windows dialog box, so they added Quick Export many years ago.

If that doesn’t quite solve the problem, you could use one of the other ways to quickly write a JPEG or PNG such File > Export > Export As, Adobe Generator, Save for Web (Legacy), a custom Action that automates one of those with a macro and keyboard shortcut, etc.

If you want to write your own script or plug-in to do it exactly the way you want, you don’t need to talk to the Adobe engineers for that; simply refer to the appropriate scripting guide or SDK documentation for Photoshop.

quote

why does saving a jpg or png take three clicks,

It's because Apple changed their API several years ago, and Adobe had no choice but to comply. Adobe came up with a workaround so you can go to preferences and choose legacy. Then save as or a regular save will save your JPEG.

@AxelMatt thats just customer care not going to help this user.

@JohnnyBoooy there is no direct line to contact an engineer for a request like this.

You can post on this forum and if users agree - they can upvote so staff takes notice.
