How to remove dark artefacts caused by bright sky

I have a photo of a building with a bright sky behind. By the edges of the building the sky is obviously darker. I tried to remove it by pulling back on Vibrancy, but I can only remove by moving the slider to minus 100.

I think I remember seeing (a long time ago) a method using a layer and a specific blend mode, and perhaps cloning on one of the layers, but I can't find it.

Does anyone know a link to such a solution, or perhaps can set out the solution here?

TIA.

You could make a selection of the sky and add a new layer (which should have a mask based on your selection). Then change the blend mode to luminosity and paint over the edges with a soft brush using a low opacity and a light grey. This will affect only the lightness not the colour.
You could use a similar method on a second layer, with the blend mode set to colour, and paint with the colour picked up from other parts of the sky. This time it will affect only the colour and not the lightness.

It would be much easier if you could show us the image.

Thank you. I used your first suggestion and got the result I wanted.
