I can not use my brush after I added a mask in a layer.

I clicked the mask thumbnail, checked whether the colour is set to real black but the brush does not erases the parts of the embedded image anylonger.

Any clue how to fix this? I used it earlier this morning without problems however all of a sudden this issue appeared…

    What is the Tool’s Blend Mode? 

    Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?
