Identify People Distractions in Images in LrC and PS

It’s known that Lightroom Classic is a parametric editor and Photoshop is primarily a pixel-based editor, so a feature of the same name might be implemented with different underlying code in each app. For example, you might have noticed that when people are detected in Lightroom Classic each detected person is marked as a discrete object so you can select one and exclude it from the deletion, but in Photoshop editing detected persons requires painting them out or in.

When you use option A, people detected for removal aren’t remembered when an image is passed between Lightroom Classic and Photoshop because the original is rendered down to a single layer of just pixels, irreversibly applying any Lightroom Classic edits. Any future people removal in Photoshop must be done with the different pixel-based Photoshop option in the Remove tool, not the object-based way it was done in Lightroom Classic.

When you use option B, which preserves the raw data as a Smart Object in Photoshop, it’s possible to edit people the same way you did it in Lightroom Classic, but you have to start by double-clicking the Smart Object layer to open it in Adobe Camera Raw. In Camera Raw, select the Remove tool and expand People distraction removal and you will find that the edit pins are there in case you want to restore any removed people.
