Image Dimensions Photoshop

Hi all,

I have a question about placing images in Photoshop. For example, if you have an A4 and you place an image of 6000x4000 pixels 300dpi in the background, will this be pixelated on the print? Or should I set the image in A4 format 210x297?

I would like to know this because I don't yet understand the proportions in relation to 300/72 dpi and what the correct size should be for each image.

Images are printed using the pixel dimensions of the main document, so set that in terms of size and resolution first. At this stage resolution (ppi not dpi) is just a way of calculating pixel dimensions from physical dimensions (literally pixels per inch).
When placing you other image, it will be within a smart object. That smart object is presented using the main document pixel dimensions. Provided the image contains enough pixels (it sounds like yours does) you should not have an issue.

Where folk fall down is either :

Making the main document with insufficient pixels and expecting to see the full detail in the placed image.

or

Making the main document OK but then placing an image with too few pixels and being surprised that scaling does not make up for insufficient detail in the image.
