Question

Image is Floating changing setting doesn't stop behaviour. Moving mouse over images on Home page does not reveal file location.

Initially I was very happy when the history of processed images on the home screen would reveal file location “on computer”. This function does not work any more. I have reset tool and tried changing settings in File Handling to “on Computer” however this does not change and hovering mouse over file in home page will not work.

The second issue relates to a Floating Image. No matter what I change settings to my open document still freely floats within the photoshop window and I dont want this. Changing the settings does not alter the floating document.

Thank you

Whatever I did with over scroll - left Application Frame checked and unchecked over scroll and now there is a static image locked within the photoshop window. Thank you. I guess I will need to wait for the next update to remedy the home screen file location coming up when hovering over “on my computer”. Thank you

Can you post a screenshot with an image opened in Photoshop?

Do you have the Application Frame on or off?

    In Photoshop Window>Application Frame

Another setting to check is Photoshop 2026>settings>Tools and see you have Overscroll enabled?

If neither of the above leads to a solution pertaining to the document windows, maybe you could post a screenshot of Photoshop with an image open.

Application Frame was checked, thank you Jeff. Overscroll was enabled but unchecked it to test that.  PS isn't opened with Rosetta, before it was on Rosetta but still same issue.

What operating system are you using?

There are some interface differences in Photoshop between Mac and Windows.

Macbook Pro 2023 M2 Max chip with added customisations, 64 gb Memory Tahoe 26.4. I do not usually get problems and it's mainly been glitches from Adobe updates.

Relying on the home screen as file organizer is very risky and I would strongly advise against it. It is not a genuine file browser that keeps a live connection to the document. It does not keep a record of the actual content of a given folder.

What it is, is a one-time passive pointer to where the document was initially saved. If it is later renamed or moved, or the folder path is in any way modified, the home screen will not reflect that. The link just goes dead.

In other words, it is intended to quickly pick up where you left off before lunch. Nothing more.

As for floating vs. tabbed documents, the preference setting does nothing for open documents. It just determines behavior when opening a new file. To float/tab an open document, go to the View menu (float in windows/consolidate to tabs). You can assign keyboard shortcuts to those.

You can also drag a floating window towards the options bar to dock/tab it. For this there is a preference setting, that either allows or blocks that. I think the default is to allow it.

If none of this works as expected, it’s corrupt preferences and you need to reset.

Thanks that, just to add that I dont use the home screen and file locations for an organiser however sometimes I need to remember where the image is, and the action was great for that. I have reset my preferences already and with no effect. The floating document doesn't behave like normal and there are no blue lines appearing to dock the image in the corner. I have set the preferences for non floating so it seems I will need to reload photoshop for it to work properly, hopefully. It would be a shame to not have the file location when hovering the thumbnail.
