Question

Image jumps to centre when zooming in/out

Is anybody else experiencing an issue, particularly in Camera RAW, where the image jumps to the centre when zooming? For example, you try to zoom in to approx 400% in the top left, but you can only zoom into the centre of the image. Is this a bug? Is there a fix to this?

Yes, it's a known bug in recent Camera RAW versions where zooming snaps to the center instead of the selected area. Updating to the latest version or using the Zoom tool with panning can help as a temporary workaround.

This issue in Camera RAW, where the image jumps to the center when zooming, is a known bug that others have reported. A temporary fix is to hold the Spacebar while zooming to maintain your position, or try resetting preferences in Photoshop. Adobe may address this in a future update.

Has anyone tried changing the Zoom Clicked Point to Center setting in Photoshop Preferences / Tools, as shown in the picture below?

I’m not sure if any Photoshop zoom settings affect Camera Raw. The only setting I can find in Camera Raw that affects the zoom behavior is Use Lightroom Style Zoom and Pan. Maybe try toggling that, but no guarantees.

I haven't tested, but I wonder if Overscroll makes a difference?  I always keep it turned on so you can move the image around the screen.  %With it off, the image is locked and can be hidden behind panels.  I like to keep all of those zoom options enabled, and it always just works as it should for me.

I would like to know the answer here, too! It drives me crazy - and makes me perceive the 16" screen as too small.

Me too. Deleting preferences did nothing. Super frustrating.

This apparently still is the only thread to this topic, as Google still does not manage to show search results regarding this very (and still annoying) issue.

Have you tried reseting preferences? https://helpx.adobe.com/in/camera-raw/using/camera-raw-settings.html

  1. Hold down the Command key and select Photoshop > Preferences > Camera Raw (macOS) or hold down the Ctrl key and select Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw (Windows).
  2. Click Yes in the dialog that asks "Delete the Camera Raw Preferences?"

I have just tried this. This hasn't solved the issue.
