impossible to save in jpg

Question

Why I can't save the pictures in jpg anymore ? It doesn't give that option and it saves it automatically in jxl. Thanks to those who can help me.

The jepg specification does not support 16 bit depth, layers of any kind, transparency or alpha channels. Few people are aware of the severe limitations in the jpeg format.

If your file has any of these properties, jpeg is not available in Save As. Then you need to use Save A Copy - or you can export.

From 2012 to around 2022, Photoshop had a "hidden" function that directly saved out a secondary jpeg copy, without alerting the user that it was a copy. The problem with that was that users would just dismiss the still open original, thereby losing data.

That function is not possible in modern operating systems, so now you need to manually initiate Save a Copy. There are ways to get around it, but I would argue that it's better to treat jpegs for what they are.

Could you share the version of Photoshop you're using along with your computer's operating system? What's the resolution of the file that you're trying to export? It would be helpful if you could share a screenshot of the format drop-down in the Save As window.

Meanwhile, try selecting the option to Save a Copy from the File menu and check if you see the option to save the file as a JPEG.
