Question

Invalid ICC Profile

I am running Photoshop 26.3.0 on a PC running Windows 11, 64 bit, version 24H2.  I am using the RAW interface to adjust images then opening them in Photoshop. Two or three images open OK, but then an error message appears on opening another image: ' The embedded ICC cannot be used because the ICC profile is invalid. Ignoring the profile.' If the image is opened, all colour information is discarded. How on earth can this be fixed? If this is a bug, it needs to be fixed!

I am opening RAW files displayed in Bridge in the Photoshop RAW editor, making adjustments, cropping etc then opening them in Photoshop. I may have a few images open in  tabs in Photoshop. Seemingly at random, on attempting to open another file in Photoshop, I get 'The embedded ICC profile cannot be used ...' error message. Closing and re-opening Photoshop is the only way around it.

It is opening it as sRGB. Same as the profile in the camera.

Just to be clear, are you opening raw files or jpegs from your camera in camera raw and at exactly what point do you see the message? Raw files have no ICC profile, it is assigned in camera raw. Jpegs and TIFFs can have a profile embedded from the camera.

Open the image in camera raw. What profile is shown at the bottom of the camera raw window, before opening it in Photoshop? You can click on it and change it in the dialogue that opens. The default is ProPhoto but you could make it Adobe RGB, or sRGB if you prefer.
