Is Harmonize in Photoshop an AI Tool or a Replacement?

I see Harmonize as a tool, not a replacement.

It’s doing the heavy lifting on the technical side, matching lighting, tone, and color, so I can focus more on the artistic and conceptual choices. Rather than replacing creativity, it speeds up the tedious parts of compositing and gives me more time to experiment, iterate, and refine.

For me, AI features like this are like an assistant in the studio, they help set the stage but leave the creative direction entirely in my hands.

Honestly, I don’t see Harmonize replacing creativity at all. It just takes care of the boring color/lighting tweaks so I can spend more time actually playing with ideas. Still end up doing a few manual adjustments, but it’s a real time-saver.

I can also outline a practical workflow showing exactly how AI and human instinct can play off each other for compositing, if you want. 

I think AI can help us, but it can not "copy" creativity. When Creatives work with Composing or retouching, etc. there are often many steps involved that are often can be the same and therefore AI CAN help here for for some kind of basic stuff. BUT when People want to be more innovative or crazy or experiment with breaking rules, etc. it will be the "manual" and traditional methods that would be preferred. A Mix of both Tools will do (for me at least) the best. 

Harmonize is more of an AI-powered assistant than a replacement. It handles the technical heavy lifting—matching tones, colors, and lighting—so you don’t get bogged down in manual corrections. With nearly all the AI stuff in Photoshop, I'm finding that a blending of the AI-generated results in compositing along with more traditional methods (and with the original pixels) tend to give the best result. A blending of workflows! 

Bear in mind that the following comes strictly from my personal workflow and mindset. I see two tremendous benefits of the Harmonize Tool:

1. It provides a beautiful reference guide for creating better composites. A revelation of how I can best adjust shadows, highlights, and colors.
2.  Often, I'm working under a tight deadline. It creates beautiful composites instantly, which is valuable during crunch times.

AI doesn’t replace your taste—it sharpens it. Seeing multiple AI-generated possibilities side by side helps you refine your instincts: you quickly spot what resonates, what doesn’t, and why. It’s like having a collaborator who throws out dozens of options, leaving you to curate and refine.
